Quick Tips for Marketing Yourself and Your Resume

Having a winner resume is only the first part to finding a job.  Marketing your skills begins with your resume but it certainly doesn’t end there.  In an effort to set yourself apart from the rest of the jobseekers out there, it is essential that you utilize any and all available methods to showcase your talents and put your resume into the hands of those that are actually hiring. 

Tips to help you get your resume out and working for you. 

Network

  • Reach out to friends, family alumni and former colleagues to let them know you are an active jobseeker. Don’t be bashful.  Take control!
  • Seek out industry related events, conferences, speakers and attend them.
  • Schedule at least one or two breakfast/lunch/coffee meetings a week with people you know or want to get to know that can help you land your next career opportunity.

Search company websites for their career opportunities

  • Many employers are using low or no fee methods to hire talent.  If you go directly to the company job posting to apply for a specific position you have a greater chance of having your resume reviewed.
  • Avoid sending your resume to a company without specifically addressing it to a person with whom you can follow up directly.
  • Only apply for jobs that you are truly qualified for.

Utilize Social Networks: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook

  • We are in the age of technology so be sure to use these sites to reach out to others in your industry and to communicate with prospective hiring managers.

Leave no stone unturned and do not give up.  Time and patience are essential.
